Myxomatous Mitral Valve Disease in Dogs - an Update and Perspectives
نویسنده
چکیده
When discussing myxomatous valve disease in dogs, one has in mind atrioventricular valves, in particular the mitral valve, which is affected the most commonly and followed by the tricuspid, aortic valve and pulmonic valve, the last being seldom degenerated. Myxomatous mitral valve disease (MVD) is the most common cause of heart failure in dogs (1). In literature it can be found under various names, such as chronic valve disease, degenerative valve disease, endocardiosis, and chronic myxomatous valvular disease. It is dealt with a chronic degenerative disease with a progressive valve thickening that starts at the valve edges and causes valve insufficiency (Fig. 1). Over time, the degeneration progresses, as does the insufficiency of the valve.

متن کاملFollow up the Treatment Process of Mitral Valve Diseases by Radiography and Echocardiography in Dogs
Background: Mitral valve disease is the most common acquired heart disease in dogs. Mitral valve regurgitation (MR) due to endocardiosis is an important cause of morbidity and mortality in dog. Echocardiography as a non-invasive tool is routinely used to evaluate and diagnose different disorders in the heart. Objectives: The purpose of this study is to determine the efficacy of medical treatmen...
متن کاملComparative Transcriptomic Profiling and Gene Expression for Myxomatous Mitral Valve Disease in the Dog and Human
Myxomatous mitral valve disease is the single most important mitral valve disease in both dogs and humans. In the case of the dog it is ubiquitous, such that all aged dogs will have some evidence of the disease, and for humans it is known as Barlow's disease and affects up to 3% of the population, with an expected increase in prevalence as the population ages. Disease in the two species show ma...
متن کاملSildenafil improves heart rate variability in dogs with asymptomatic myxomatous mitral valve degeneration
Myxomatous mitral valve degeneration (MMVD) causes an imbalance of sympathovagal activity resulted in poor cardiac outcomes. Phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors have been revealed cardioprotective effect in patients with heart diseases. This study aimed to 1) compare the heart rate variability (HRV) between asymptomatic MMVD and healthy dogs and 2) assess long-term effects of sildenafil and enalapri...
